That's right. January 1st. So I think it might be nice to have a combination New Years Eve and birthday party, so everyone can celebrate both together. Ah! Though I'd like to keep it a surprise from Hinata-kun, at least a surprise that it's for his birthday.

[ If that's what he wants to do she has no reason to tell him no. It's not like Saber's been to a modern day ball. But despite everything even Saber is a little interested in accompanying someone there as a date. She just isn't sure who to ask. ]

I admit I am interested in meeting the man who Peko respects so highly.

You'd better not want to keep it a surprise because you're planning something weird. [He was with you up until that point, man. Because so far his experience with Komaeda-brand surprises has not been a favorable one. Especially not where parties are concerned.]

Isn't it normal to keep a birthday party a surprise sometimes?

[Is he doing this wrong alreadY? A pause before he adds.] Unless you could combining New Year's Eve and a birthday party as weird, then I don't have anything planned. Hinata-kun deserves to have a good birthday, so even if it's someone as worthless as me planning it, I really want it to turn out well.

Don't get smart, asshole, you know what I meant. [Still does not trust Komaeda as far as he can throw him which, let's face it, is not very far. He has twiggy little arms and Komaeda is much taller than he is. So he's probably going to spend the whole party on high alert because he's convinced something is going to go wrong.] What needs to be done for this party to happen?

[Apparently that's his way of offering to help...because it's Hinata and he does want to help, but like hell is he going to ask what Komaeda needs help with.]

[Komaeda is quiet for a moment. He's coming to the conclusion that absolutely nothing he says will possibly be taken well at all right now.]

Please don't feel the need to trouble yourself with anything. Hinata-kun will just be happier with all our classmates there I'm sure. The ones who can be, in this place, anyway.

Though if you have any good ideas for what to do at a party... mm. I'll admit to not having been to many at all. [Never invited. Story of his life. Not that he blames people for not wanting him around.] So if you have any ideas for activities, I'd be happy to hear them. I've already asked Tanaka-kun's input on music. [So now he's going to Kuzuryuu for party games. He's totally got this in the bag.]

[Meanwhile Kuzuryuu is kind of a strange teenage boy and has next to no interest in romance at all. Hence "ideally" as opposed to just ideally. He doesn't see why people make such a big deal out of having a date for things like this. Or having a date in general.]

It means a lot to me to know she's made friends here. So I'd like to meet as many of you as I can. And she spoke highly of your skill the one time she mentioned you. So I guess you could say the respect thing is mutual.

[As in he wants to meet people Peko respects who aren't him. So far, most of her friends have kind of been...goofballs.]

[Komaeda what are you doing. Komaeda where is the logic in this party planning. You may have some of the worst options when it comes to help but really? The no-fun brigade on party games? GUNDAM FOR MUSIC??]

[Expect to find a gift on Christmas Eve, all wrapped in red paper with a To Kuzuryuu, from Hinata on a sheet of neat white paper on top. Inside--

Is another little box, and when he opens it Kuzuryuu'll find a good amount of karinto in wax paper. They look almost homemade, and they'll taste delicious... and besides that, there're several sake cups wrapped up carefully, black with gold dragon designs on them.

And a simple, handwritten note: Merry Christmas, Kuzuryuu. I figured that, even if we don't drink sake out of them, it might be fun to use these sometime.

[Nope. This is foolproof. Yakuza party games. World's most dramatic and possibly animal themed goth party music. At least he's going to ask Hanamura about food. So at the very least there should be no food poisoning.] Setting up should be pretty simple I think.

[Though Kuzuryuu does bring up a good point. Hinata's preferences do tend to going with the flow and going with whatever his weird nerd friends want to do.] Mm. It's true Hinata-kun does seem happiest when he gets to spend time with the people he cares about -- though I think he'd be shy to admit that so plainly. So if everyone comes, no matter what we do it should be good, don't you think?

[ As ~~threatened~~ promised comes a christmas card! There's also an assortment of candy - candy canes, taffy, chocolates - to go with it. Inside is a very brief letter:

Except it's Peko, so it's a very polite double-knock with the back of her knuckles. For all she knows, Kuzuryuu isn't even home? And even if he is home, if he doesn't hear her, that's okay, too. She's already uncertain enough giving this to him, even if it's after Christmas and can't possibly be taken the wrong way. Or the right way. No, wrong way--!!

But if he is home and peeks through the peephole, or even opens the door, it's immediately obvious that Something's Up. Dressed up, that is, thanks to Peko's black dress and, wonder of wonders, a bit of jewelry. Her hair isn't in its usual braids, either, instead pulled up into a simple bun. Those loose bits of hair that are usually free from her braids are still hanging comfortably on either side of her face, though, so it's not like she's magically unrecognizable. She is unmistakably still Peko, down to the sword bag on her back.]

[Needless to say, it takes him more than a second to get to the door. It's more like good near-minute. And when he opens the door, Peko will probably be a little bit surprised. Because while Kuzuryuu wearing a suit is hardly abnormal, Kuzuryuu wearing a three piece suit is a little rarer. Especially one that's clearly much fancier than the sort of suit he casually just wears everywhere. He's dressed in solid black (even his patch is plain and dragon-less), save for a silver tie, his family emblem pin, and a pair of cuff links, the second of which he's working on fastening right now.]

[Or at least he was...then he noticed who was at the door.]

[Please hold while he tries to find his words, they seem to have completely escaped him. Because Peko looks really nice, holy shit. Suffice it to say, he didn't bother looking through the peephole. Probably because he can't reach it without standing on something...]

[That sure is a three piece suit. Or four piece, if we're counting the shirt (we're not). But while she expects him to normally wear a suit, she doesn't expect to see him in one this nice, and certainly not the same night as a winter ball.

She's being forced to rapidly reassess the assumption she'd made since the day the invitations came out, and now she feels even more awkward. It's too late to hide the plastic bag in her hand behind her back, so she just... pauses. And clears her throat a little.]

Ah... F-Fuyuhiko...

[Is she blushing, she'd better not be blushing. She can't really bring a hand up to her cheeks to check, but it sure feels like there's at least a very mild flush to her cheeks. Keep it cool, Peko...!]

[Well three piece minus one because Katar derped and realized it would be stupid to be fiddling with cufflinks when he already has the jacket on. So that's laid out on the couch behind him, which may or may not be visible from the door. EITHER WAY THOUGH: OBVIOUSLY STILL THREE PIECES TOTAL.]

[And he uh...wasn't sure how to casually bring it up to Peko of all people. He really didn't want to send her any weird signals or anything. He had kind of hoped she might bring it up...it would be less weird that way. BUT NOPE, SHE JUST ASSUMED. GG, PEKO.]

Then all mental processes kind of screech to a halt, and she's definitely flushing then. There's absolutely no hiding that.]

[Right, focus Peko. Now is not the time to bask in the warm feelings that Kuzuryuu thinks she looks nice. She's still flushing, but her expression is at least more under control as she lifts the plastic bag she's holding in one hand to make it easier for him to see.]

W-well, I had thought you were not going, so...

[And now she just feels stupid as she silently offers the bag. Inside he'll find a couple of noir-looking films (except it's Cerealia so there's almost definitely at least one robot in them), and a few movie-appropriate sweet snacks.]
