Pekoyama-san isn't here. It's Hinata-kun, Saionji-san, Tanaka-kun, me, you, and Tsumiki-san. From our class, at least...I've been here longest, then Saionji-san, then Hinata-kun and Tanaka-kun came together like you both just did.

Pawniard, the Sharp Blade Pokémon! Pawniard's entire body is made of blades which it uses to inflict damage on its opponent.

Pokémon is a monster training and raising and battling game...that's your starter, so that's the Pokémon you'll be using until you catch or purchase others. You should be sure to give it a name as soon as you can, and to get to know it! Hey, does your ID card say "trainer" or "breeder"?

That means that you can't use HM moves without badges. ...Ah, those are things like Fly and Surf...they're ways to move more easily in this world. However, it also means you get a discount in stores...and according to a few people, more prize money from gyms.

Well, in the games it's always someone with a starter who is super-effective against yours...so there's a challenge to surmount! Your starter is a Dark and Steel type, so you'd need someone who has...let's see. Fighting, Bug, or Ground...Fighting's good against both Dark and Steel, so your destined rival is someone with that sort of starter, for sure.

And what's a gym or a badge for that matter?

Each Pokemon has a type. [ She tilts her screen sideways; there's a Munna floating lazily nearby, sleeping. ] For example, my starter is a Psychic-type...it basically tells you what their attacks might be imbued with, and what they're strong and weak against. In the games, you could choose from a grass, fire, or water starter. Grass was weak to fire but strong against water; water was weak against grass but strong against fire; fire was strong against grass but weak to water. Learning type effectiveness is key to becoming a good Pokemon trainer.

For example, the first gym is a flying-type gym...so knowing that, I've trained up electric-types.

Gyms are in some of the cities in the region...there are eight in Johto in all. They're run by "leaders", whom are trainers of exceptional talent. When you defeat a gym in battle - that is, the leaders as well as their minions - you get a badge to prove you did so, and prize money, and TMs or HMs, which teach your Pokemon special moves. When you get all eight, you're supposed to be able to challenge the Elite Four, who are even higher level...
