There's no need to apologize for that. Though I hope this doesn't mean you will be dozing off on the trip there.
[It's a friendly tease as he gestures for the door. After you! They gotta get out of the castle and into Bavan before he does any leading so he'll let Fuyuhiko be in front for now. It can't be fun following someone as big as he is with huge ass wings anyway.]
no subject
[Nothing like fresh air and sunshine to wake you up. How lucky is he that the fog ended just in time for his birthday? Is he the only dangan with good birthday luck...]
[He does head out the door first, but he doesn't lead. Instead, he waits for Gundam.]
Are we walking there or flying? [He doesn't care either way but obviously it'll take way longer to walk than it would to fly and/or run...]
no subject
[And it's better to do this while the day is young!]
I'd like for us to have plenty of time to enjoy our lunch at our own leisure, rather than worry about time. Arriving at the diner early should ensure that.
no subject
[He takes a deep breath and shifts into his travel form, a sight that is no less weird and grotesque now than the first time Gundam saw it, but at least he's probably used to it by now. And once he's done, there's a cute little shiba standing in front of him. So clearly that makes up for it?]
[Get ready, Gundam. He's about to jump at you. So you don't have to bend down to pick him up because you are still way too stupidly tall. Are they even going to allow you inside the restaurant?]
no subject
Gundam is completely ready to catch him, holding on tight once he does so that there's no risk of him falling and then takes to the sky!
And don't worry, he's thought of that! He scoped the place out ahead of time and checked to make sure there would be no such issues. Everything is good. Do you wanna talk about anything on the way or will they arrive in Bavan in silence?]
no subject
[Thank you for not dropping the doggie, though. He appreciates not dying? He's proud of his spotless death record.]
So uh...how'd you hear about this place, anyway? Another coworker?
[Small talk? Small talk.]
no subject
But of course! He is glad to help you continue with this spotless death record.]
Not a coworker this time, no. I inquired with my loyal followers if any of them knew of a diner that met certain, specific criteria. As it so happens, between the lot of them, there were a few places that did. I visited these places to gauge if we would be welcome and if I would be able to actually enter the establishment.
[He went through a lot of work finding the perfect restaurant!]
no subject
...ah, right. Your cult. I'm guessing you mean your human followers, not Matsuno.
[Because the Matsuno brothers are living in a park and probably eating garbage or something? They don't seem the type to know anything about nice restaurants...especially with how new they both are.]
...how many followers do you have now, anyway?
[He's kind of scared to know the answer but...also. Somebody has to keep an eye on Gundam and make sure he doesn't go too crazy with this whole cult thing.
no subject
[He is so proud of himself you have no idea. He has!!! So many followers!!!!!! They are so loyal and they worship him so well! He loves them he loves being a demon it is the Best Thing.]
no subject
[...okay, still gonna keep his eye on him, just in case. But still. A much better answer than what he feared it would be. Fuyuhiko gives an internal sigh of relief so as not to offend the demon.]
Not bad. You're not making promises you can't keep with any of 'em though, right?
[AT LEAST BE AN HONORABLE DEMON, SO HELP HIM...]
no subject
Of course not. I have successfully fulfilled all the wishes my acolytes have given to me in return for their loyalty and praise. They are following me of their own free will, having sought out the assistance of something beyond their power. While I may own their souls, it is my duty to uphold my end of our bargain, whatever that may be.
[Come on, he's totally an honorable demon!]
no subject
Good, good. Keep that up and I won't have to kick your ass for offering people crooked deals.
[Stay honorable, or else.]
What sorta shit did they ask you for? Or is that something you can't tell me.
[Is there like...some kind of privacy clause with soul sales?]
no subject
[Even though he...really actually is turning somewhat evil and heartless (let's not talk about his new sadism kink okay??) he's still pretty honorable and good when it counts.]
Wealth mostly. Many times I am approached by those who have lost everything and are desperate for a new chance, or those who cannot improve their lives no matter how hard they try. Actually, it is surprisingly stereotypical.
[90% of the time you summon demons for wealth back in their universe too. Almost all of the people he's been approached by are gamblers since...gambling sure is a hobby he's picked up recently.
...what he doesn't tell Fuyuhiko is that two of those men who "lost everything" lost it all to him first before begging him not to leave them out on the street.............]
However, one requested protection from a gang he had crossed and one was desperate to have her husband brought back to her from the strife in Vandare.
no subject
Huh. [Who would have thought.] I guess it goes without saying that you need to be careful with your money. I know we're loaded, but if you dig too many people out of the hole, you'll wind up in their position.
...what happened with the woman and her husband though? Why were they separated like that in the first place?
[Since he...assumes Gundam got the dude. He said he'd fulfilled every request, so...]
no subject
[Like...he has enough money to do everything he normally does but also spend a huge amount on shit like custom accessories (pauldrons, hakama, etc) and jewelry (all of which are gold if it's a metal)...don't worry about him.
Also, again...it helps that he's been kind of robbing people blind in some cases with challenges and bets.]
I also have an impressive amount of savings squirreled away too, in the event that something should happen. More than enough to last me a while so that I may support myself as well as my companions while seeking out a way to replace any income I previously lost.
[Gundam Tanaka is always prepared for the worst case scenarios. If you didn't know Fuyuhiko, this apparently applies to money issues as well as animals and sacrificing his life for the good of his class.]
However, to put your mind at ease, I do not take on debts or deals that I cannot afford. There have been a few I have turned away because the amount was not worth the soul that would be sworn to me.
As for the woman and her husband, he'd been given a business task of some sort to settle in Vandare. I did not pry into that matter specifically, but he'd arrived before much of the infighting and strife took place and seemingly stranded there afterward. It had been some time since she'd seen or heard from him, but could not feasibly go there on her own. As such she approached someone who very likely could.
[A monster. Specifically the demon.]
no subject
[He just had to be sure, okay? He knows Gundam didn't have a TON of money growing up, so he's a little concerned that it might lead to some money management problems on the demon's part. And not in a bad way, even. Just his desire to help others who don't have money might be his undoing.]
[Fuyuhiko looks back over his shoulder at Gundam.]
Was he alright? The husband, I mean. You found him?
no subject
I did, and he was. He had healing wounds from being caught in the middle of it when the fighting initially began, but he was in one piece and in no danger of dying.
[It was a happy ending!]
no subject
Good, good... [He falls silent for after that, just watching the landscape streak by beneath them as they draw closer and closer to Bavan. Unless Gundam has something to say?]
no subject
The destination in question is, as he mentioned, a pretty upscale restaurant. Nothing super high class, but not something your average Joe would go to either. And there is indeed plenty of room for the poor giant demon to get in and maneuver through. Barely.
It's the kind of diner that you're seated for and given menus, no overhead display to tell them what there is. They get one of the roomier booths made for a family rather than just two people, and handed their menus. Their waitress will be back to take their orders in a bit!]
What do you think?
[Of both the establishment and the burger selection (which is pretty decent. Not amazing, but decent!)]
no subject
[He teases you because he likes you, Gundam. Promise.]
no subject
How fortunate for me that I managed to nearly avoid it. It would be terrible for a bad omen such as that to take place on such an important day.
[He's examining his own menu as he says this, thankful that he decided to file his claws before coming here. He'd feel bad if he ripped it or something...]
no subject
Tch...it's not that important. [Fuyuhiko rubs at his nose and lifts his menu up a little higher to obscure his face. GODDAMMIT. STOP GIVING HIM FEELINGS, YOU ASSHOLE. He can't deal with these warm fuzzies.] Besides, pretty sure I'm immune to your bad omens at this point.
no subject
[Gundam, meanwhile, lowers his own menu to look at the heir.]
I am both honored to know you, and glad that we have grown so close. If you had not been brought into the world in the first place, neither of these feelings would reside within me, and that would be a very hollow existence to lead.
[Sure, he got along just fine before he met any of his classmates, and they've all affected him in different ways, but at this point Fuyuhiko has been the most profound. And he doesn't really like the idea of going back to what it was like before knowing him or becoming this close to him.
He lifts his menu back up, going back to reading his options.]
You might be immune to those, yes. Still though, it would be best not to risk it.
no subject
C'mon...stop getting all overdramatic on me. Or else.
[Or else nothing, he's touched. Really. Hence why he's still using his menu as a face shield.]
Better safe than sorry, yeah, yeah. Though...you know, [He glances up over the edge of his menu.] honestly, I'm actually surprised you haven't cracked at least one of something yet. That bug's just made 'em completely ridiculous. [A beat.] No offense.
[SUBJECT CHANGE.]
no subject
Calling them ridiculous as the demon glancing upward, as if he could see his own horns.]
As much as I appreciate the sort of impression the give me, they have gotten a little out of control. I've been trying to remain aware of where they are, to avoid getting caught or injuring myself.
