Voicemail (Cerealia)
This is Kuzuryuu Fuyuhiko. Obviously, I'm not here right now, so leave a message and maybe I'll get back to you later if it's not something stupid.

...do you...I mean, would it be weird if I asked for a hug?
[That isn't inappropriate, is it?]
action;
[But oh. Okay.]
...that wouldn't be weird, no.
[Okay well...actually it would be sort of weird since they're in public and hugging in general is just kind of weird for someone like Kuzuryuu. But these are kind of special circumstances and Mabel IS a kid. So it's different, and more importantly: it's okay.]
[Though that doesn't make him the best choice to ask for something like that. Almost anybody else would be a better option, really.]
action;
With the okay though, Mabel gets out of her chair, quickly makes her way around the table and practically latches onto Kuzuryuu. Sorry that it's weird out in public, but you know this is just something she really needs right now. He's not even an awful choice.
He's a friend and that's really what matters here. Though with how tight it is it may last a few minutes, sorry about that...]
action;
[Though if she tries to keep this going longer than a minute, he is going to start trying to nudge her away. Sorry but...again, it's in public and that's weird and even if his big brother instincts are kicking in something fierce right now, he still wouldn't exactly call himself and Mabel close. Not that he wouldn't mind that changing, surprisingly enough.]
action;
Thank you.
[Okay gonna go sit back down and not make this too weird. Drink some of that hot chocolate.]
action;
[Nothing to see here. Just a guy drinking his tea. Yup. That's it.]
action;
...hey Hiko, does that offer go for advice too?
[Once that question's out, she goes back to her parfait. Just watching him and waiting for a reply.]
action;
action;
Kuzuryuu.
[It is not spoken like someone who is fluent in Japanese or anything, but listen to her roll that 'r' there. And that beaming smile because she is so proud of herself.]
I've been practicing!
[What happened to asking for advice...]
action;
Ah, I s-- wait what? What do you mean "coming up in conversation a lot"? Who is "we"? You and Dipper?
[He actually is a little proud to hear that she can finally say his last name right, but he's more concerned with the whole talking about him thing. What have you been saying, Mabel?? And to whom??]
action;
Oh Dipper and I talk about you a lot.
[A pause.]
Or...we did, anyway. He was a little worried about me being friends with Yakuza, since Stan's probably gotten in trouble with the mafia in a bunch of other countries by now and also he's really paranoid and stuff, but it's fine.
[Actually, thinking about it now she has to giggle a little around a spoonful of parfait.]
Did you know at one point, when coming up with theories about why we're here, he mentioned, like, the Chinese mafia? Said they might have kidnapped us and we're just really in this big compound of theirs or something. Like this is all some kind of big social experiment. We discarded that pretty quick though, since we're not sure if China has this kind of futuristic technology.
[Another bite of parfait.]
We're pretty sure Blandin is behind this. We're all stuck in the future. The year Snevinty-something or whatever.
action;
[Oh good, another name with an L in it that he can't really pronounce. He tried though. Burandin.]
action;
[A few more bites of parfait.]
And then, a little while later, he came back and invoked this ancient rite of Globnar or whatever, which is gladiatorial time combat, but we tricked these suckers into giving us a time tape measure and went back in time to escape it, but we found out all about our friend's Soos' dad and how sad he was, and that if you win Globnar you get a time wish which can do literally anything! Literally! So we decided to fight Blandin in all of these hard challenges. We got to fight a cyclocks and I rode a unicycle on a tightrope and we even got to drive a motor cycle in a time race! And then the end challenge was laser tag and we totally kicked his butt.
So we got the time wish and we gave Blandin his title back and even gave him some nice hair so we're not sure why he'd do something like this to us but like...how else can you explain it??
action;
...didn't you have something you wanted to ask me? Something about advice?
[Let's...let's go back to that, shall we? Surprisingly, he can actually think of another explanation, since he's no stranger to the idea of being stuck in a virtual reality simulator. However, he doesn't really want to get into that right now.]
action;
Oh right! Okay so...there's this really cute boy here that I really like, and he's super shy and kind of grumpy but he's really nice! Ciel...he's been here longer than you, so maybe you've seen him? Anyway...when I say that I like him, I mean that I like like him, y'know? But...well. Things are complicated.
[He's engaged at like 15 complicated.]
I thought maybe I could get some advice about this? I don't normally need love advice, I am the match making queen, but he's a lot different than most boys that I know. He's super classy and he's very smart and he's into things like taxes...and you're not like boys I know either, and you and Peko obviously have a thing. So...
action;
["...and you and Peko obviously have a thing."]
[Kuzuryuu chokes on his tea, spluttering and barely managing to set the cup down without spilling it everywhere. He has to whack himself hard in the chest a few times to be able to start forming words again. Wheezy, spluttering, half-choked words, sure. But words nonetheless.]
W-where-- [He coughs.] Where the fuck did you get that idea?! Peko and I... [A small coughing fit and two more smacks to his own chest.] We definitely...w-we don't have "a thing".
[How high do you even have to BE to think something like that...]
action;
Her concern from before doesn't disappear though.]
Well you guys are super close. Peko was looking really hard for you when she got here. And after you got here, whenever I ask about it, she usually gets pretty shy, and that's a tell-tale sign that someone is just too shy to talk about their relationship! Plus you guys totally matched at the ball too and you arrived together...I just figured you had something going on. Maybe not full on dating yet, but there's no way that wasn't coming soon.
[Come on Kuzuryuu. All the signs are there.]
action;
Yeah, we're close but that's not even... [Another small, more controlled series of coughs. He seems to be pretty much done with nearly choking to death on hot tea. Thank god.] N-not even remotely close to the type of relationship we have. You're way off the mark here and reading too much into things. For instance, the ball? We probably matched half the people there. That's what happens when you wear a classic like black. Peko was Lee's date and she didn't even know I was going until we were both leaving to head over there. That's the reason we showed up together.
action;
So...then you don't like Peko? Like...like like her?
[Saying anything on Peko's behalf right now would be rude all on it's own, but doing something like that without knowing how Kuzuryuu feels would be the worst. She's learned her lesson after Robbie and Tambry...]
action;
[Kuzuryuu drags the nail of his index finger across the side of his cup, staring into the liquid like it contains all the secrets of the universe or something. It doesn't actually make any noise, it just appears to be more a subconscious fidgeting on his part. Something similar to how he futzes with his tie when he's embarrassed or flustered. In this case though, he seems to be thinking. It's a relatively straightforward question, just a simple yes or no and yet...he doesn't seem to be able to answer it readily.]
[Because it would be a lie to say that he's never had feelings like that for Peko. But if those feelings DO still exist, they're on a level buried so deep that Kuzuryuu isn't even aware of them anymore. More than anything, he wants to be FRIENDS with Peko. And that alone is proving to be quite the feat. And that's not even getting into the issues of his family and her position and all that shit.]
Remember what I said back when we first met? Peko and I...we can't truly be called friends. We've known each other our whole lives and she's very important to me but...we were never allowed to be friends. Or equals, for that matter. So something like dating... [He trails off.] It wouldn't work out. She still can't even call me by name if other people are around, and she still sees me as something that she needs to protect.
[He swishes the tea around in his cup. This whole time he's been talking more to the teacup than to Mabel and it doesn't look like that's changing just yet.]
I'd rather have her as my equal and my friend than my girlfriend. So I guess...the answer is no. I don't.
[Like like her, that is.]
action;
That's just...
That's really sad? Incredibly sad, honestly. That's gotta be an awful way to feel, she can't even imagine it. It's nothing she's had to experience before since making friends is really natural for her.
And then thinking about the way he feels versus the way she's confident Peko feels...
She doesn't answer immediately, staring her hot chocolate down in thought.]
That must be really hard...
[Right now, more than anything, she wants to help. Where do you start helping something like that though?]
action;
[He laughs wryly, taking a sip of his tea. Because that is like the exact OPPOSITE of how he's always felt.]
We're getting better about communicating now, and she's stopped thinking of herself as a tool so...it's better. We're better. But something like romance, with our history? Not a good idea. And besides, I'm not interested in romance or dating anyway so it's kind of a moot point.
action;
[So full of questions, sorry. Not interested in romance or dating though, that is so wrong. Kuzuryuu how can you not be interested in that? She's going to save that for the moment though, find a better place to bring that up.]
action;
[So Peko is Yakuza too, apparently.]
action;
I think I understand then! It's hard, because you're an heir to something big and important [and criminal-y] and she's supposed to protect you, and that kind of relationship isn't okay usually! Right?
[Peko is Yakuza too. Man she's meeting so many cool people here.]
