Kuzuryuu. [Kind of a stiff way to start a voicemail. It almost sounds like this is a tiny bit awkward for him, though then again it's Gundam we're talking about and who knows how often he's ever called people before, right? Well, people who are in that vague grey area of "pretty okay but not friends" anyway.]

There's a ball approaching.

I...don't know. [He kind of wants to go but at the same time he feels kind of weird about it.] I'm thinking about it but it just feels kinda weird to go to a party that's partially for someone you don't know's birthday and partially for a holiday you don't really celebrate, you know what I mean?

I actually had little idea of what the ball would be for, though a winter theme seemed likely. Even if it is both of those things however it could be...entertaining, correct? To attend?

And probably Hanamura and Souda but who cares about those guys honestly. Gundam doesn't really plan on hanging out with either of them much.]

If even we were invited, surely we would not be the only persons there who do not know the guest of honor after all.

I guess you're right, yeah. Neither of us have been here very long and we don't know her so...chances are she probably just invited everyone, if we both got invitations. [He knows this, and yet he still feels slightly weird about it.] Do you know if Hinata's going, by any chance...?

Indeed. And yes, I spoke with Hinata about the matter previous to contacting you. He was looking for a suit to wear, and asked me if I would attend, so it is surely safe to assume that he is going as well.

Alright. Stick to dark, neutral colors for the suit itself. Black is always going to be your safest bet, but I think you could actually pull navy off pretty well if you'd rather go that route. Personally, I'd go for a full three piece suit since balls are supposed to be pretty formal, right? [He's...never been to one either so...] But that's just me. Regardless of whether you decide to do the same or not, control your obvious need for ridiculous patterns. That goes for both vests and ties. Just go with solid colors or a simple, subtle pattern and make sure everything matches. Oh, and black dress shoes and socks.

[There you go, there's a little advice. Free of charge, even!]

There's a long pause of silence on Gundam's end as he processes this advice. Is he taking a moment to write it all down or something??]

...aren't all suits three pieces? [Pants, shirt, jacket. Four technically, if you count the tie.] I have no need for ridiculous patterns...but what would you consider subtle?

If everything must match, dark and neutral colors may be impossible, unless you believe a black suit would compliment my scarf well enough...

No...Tanaka. First off: a three piece suit is one that has a vest. What were you counting as the third piece? [A SHIRT IS NOT PART OF A SUIT, GUNDAM...] Secondly: black goes just fine with your scarf, black goes with everything. But that brings me to my third point: don't wear your scarf. Just leave your hamsters at your apartment. They'll be fine on their own for a few hours, right?

I will not leave them at the apartment.

[That is just that. There isn't even a discussion on the scarf, those hams are coming so the scarf is coming.]

As for the suit, would the pants, shirt and jacket not count as three pieces? A vest seems unnecessary if you will merely be wearing a jacket over top of it.

Then get some kind of carrier for them or something. Let them sit on your shoulders.

No...the shirt doesn't count since you have to buy it separately. Not that you can't buy vests separately too, but it's also possible to buy a single suit that has all three.

[Hence why it's called a three piece suit.]

And you don't have to button the jacket up over the vest if you don't want to. But even if you do, you can still see the vest underneath it. Just try and visualize it for a second, dumbass.

The scarf is necessary. I refuse to bring them in some form of carrier. Any "carrier" I could purchase would not have adequate enough room for the four of them, which would incite arguments if not violent fights due to stress at being confined in such a way. The scarf offers them a place to hide when they wish, while still giving them the freedom to roam as they please in the open air. One of the most basic functions of my entire ensemble is to give them space should they desire it without restraining them and making them uncomfortable.

[After that little rant, there's a somewhat frustrated noise from his end. He can't really visualize it at all. It still seems pointless. Isn't a plain suit enough? What makes having a vest so much more formal?

What if we just get you a different scarf? One that's a little shorter so that you can tuck it in the front of your jacket or something instead of wrapping it a million times around your neck and still having it trail all over the place?

...that would be acceptable. If we could find something like that, it would be a fine temporary replacement until the ball has ended.

It shouldn't be too hard, I don't think. Especially since it's December. It's not like scarves in general are hard to find during this time of year.

[He offers a sort of affirmative hum in reply to that.]

Finding one that would match the suit would be easy enough as well, I would assume. We'll need to be sure it is not too light of a material, so that their nails do not get caught easily in it.

Yeah, that goes without saying. You know, you could probably leave out the tie and just go with some kind of loose knot in the front instead. If it's just going to cover it up anyway, there's no point in wearing a tie. Same for a vest, so there's two less things you have to worry about.
